Terms of service
The terms for using Glyphic, the study notebook run by Cobaltian. They cover who can use it, what you own, what the AI features are and are not, how sharing works, and what the beta does and does not promise. Plain language on purpose.
The short version
- Glyphic is a notebook and study tool. It is in a private, invite-only beta and is free while it is.
- Your notes, attachments, and study items are yours. We host and process them only to run Glyphic for you.
- The AI features (Cairn and the study-material drafts) are study aids. They can be wrong. They are not verified curriculum and not professional advice.
- Do not use Glyphic to harass anyone or to store or share illegal content. We remove it, close the account, and report where the law requires.
- It is a beta: things change, limits apply, and you should export anything you cannot afford to lose.
- You must be 13 or older to have an account.
Who can use Glyphic
During the beta, an account requires an email address on our invite list. You may request an invite from the Glyphic page. One account per person; you are responsible for everything done through your account and for keeping the email it is tied to secure, since signing in is by a code sent to that address.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Glyphic. By creating an account you confirm that you are. Glyphic is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep an account for anyone under 13.
Your content is yours
Everything you write or upload in Glyphic (notes, attachments, study items, projects) is yours. You give Cobaltian only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, sync it between your devices, back it up, and send the parts you choose to an AI provider when you use an AI feature. We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train models.
Glyphic is local-first. A copy of your notebook lives in your browser and works offline; your account keeps a synced copy so a second device can pick it up. Clearing your browser's data removes the local copy, not the account copy.
You can export your notebook at any time from the You page. Please do, regularly, during the beta.
The AI features
Cairn (the study assistant) and the study-material drafts are produced by large language models. They are study aids. They can be confidently wrong about an equation, a code clause, a unit, or a procedure, and a wrong answer in exam prep means practising the wrong thing. Every AI surface in Glyphic carries the same label: AI-generated study aid, not verified curriculum. Cross-check against your course materials. Treat it that way.
Nothing Glyphic produces is engineering, legal, medical, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for your course, your instructor, or a licensed engineer's review.
When you use an AI feature, the content you attach or type is sent to the AI provider we route it to (see the privacy policy for who). AI usage has daily limits per account during the beta so one account cannot run up the bill for everyone; Glyphic tells you when a limit is reached and when it resets.
Acceptable use
Do not use Glyphic to:
- harass, threaten, bully, or impersonate anyone, including through shared notes;
- store, share, or distribute content that is illegal to possess or distribute, including any sexual content involving minors;
- upload malware or attempt to break into, overload, or scrape the service or other people's accounts;
- circumvent invite, usage, or size limits, or share one account between people;
- infringe someone else's copyright or other rights, including by uploading course materials you are not allowed to copy.
If you see content in Glyphic that breaks these rules, report it to inquiries@cobaltian.co with the note or account involved. We remove it, and we close accounts that break these rules. Where the law requires it (for example, for child sexual abuse material), we preserve the evidence and report it to the authorities.
Sharing
Glyphic lets you share a note with another Glyphic account you choose. Someone you share with can read that note; they cannot see the rest of your notebook. You are responsible for what you share and with whom. Sharing features are limited during the beta and may change.
The beta, limits, and availability
Glyphic is a beta run by a very small team. It may change, pause, or be unavailable without notice, and features may be added, altered, or removed. We do not promise any level of uptime. Current limits include a per-file attachment cap (50 MB), per-account storage limits, and daily AI usage limits; these are shown in the app where they apply and can change.
We keep backups of the account copy of your notebook, and we test restoring them. Even so, a beta can lose data. Your local copy and your own exports are your safety net; keep them.
Glyphic is free during the beta. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you in advance, and nothing you already have will be locked behind a payment without notice.
Leaving, and being asked to leave
You can stop using Glyphic at any time. Export your notebook first if you want a copy. To delete your account and its data, email inquiries@cobaltian.co from the address on the account; the privacy policy says what happens and how long it takes.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we shut the beta down. Except where the account was closed for abuse, we will give you a way to export your content first.
Warranties and liability
Glyphic is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Cobaltian is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, for lost data, or for decisions made in reliance on AI-generated content, and its total liability for anything arising from Glyphic is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim (during the free beta, that is zero).
Changes to these terms
We will update these terms as the beta changes, and the date at the top moves when we do. For a change that matters to you (fees, data handling, what the AI features do), we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Glyphic after a change means you accept it.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, and any dispute will be handled in the courts there. Questions about these terms: inquiries@cobaltian.co.
